Team members are Beth Ann Hansen, Kelly Hansen, Amanda Beals, Luke Norris and Justin Evans -- all from Greencastle. The team is coached by Gayle Hansen, Greencastle.

In the 4-H senior division, the Putnam County Ants team, consisting of Beth Ann Hansen, Amanda Beals, Luke Norris and Kelly Hansen, captured first place. Additionally had the team been in the FFA division, it would have still earned first place.

Individually Beth Ann Hansen earned first place for the third time in the 4-H senior division. Hansen had an amazing score of 245 out of a possible 250 points.

Amanda Beals earned second place. Other individual winners were Luke Norris for fourth-place individual and Kelly Hansen as 10th-place individual.

The winner of the senior division receives a four-day educational trip to Washington, D.C., with other Indiana 4-H'ers. Since Beth Ann Hansen has already won and completed this trip previously, Amanda Beals will be eligible to participate in the next Washington award trip.

Competing at the junior level for the Putnam County Ants was Justin Evans.

Career Development Events are designed to encourage youth to learn all they can about a specific topic. In entomology, contestants learn to identify insect specimens. They must also complete a quiz about insects and management techniques.

Youth practice the skills of observation, analysis, and communication -- life skills they will use their entire adulthood. Youth also enjoy the fun, teamwork and spirit of friendly competition of Career Development Event contests.

There are more than a dozen different competitions where 4-H'ers may participate in career development events.
