The Greencastle Tiger Cub boys' basketball team won its seventh game of the year and second of weekend with an exciting 52-45 win Saturday. The 11-point win over Rockville Friday night helped the Tiger Cubs get to 7-3 on the year.

The opening minutes saw the teams trade three-pointers. West Vigo's Corey Vickers, who hit six of seven for the game, made his team's first two baskets, getting the lead, then tying the game at 6-6. Freshman guard Colin York hit his first two, matching Vickers and making the tie.

Junior guard Ryan Coble made his first three to give his team the lead at 11-8. The score went back and forth and the Greencastle got a basket from senior Brody Bollman at the end of the quarter to send the game to the second with Greencastle up 17-15.

"I thought we came out and played hard there in the opening quarter. I took my first timeout and asked our players' how many threes did Vickers have to hit before we guard him? Sadly we didn't there in the half, as he hit 5-5," coach Troy Greenlee said.

The second quarter was much like the first as both teams traded baskets with the game being tied six times. Bollman added a basket at the 3:57 mark to put Greencastle up 25-22. West Vigo went up at the 1:43 mark when Vickers hit his fifth three. Greencastle got another basket in the paint by Bollman to regain the lead.

The first half was fouless until the 2:28 mark when West Vigo picked up its first of the game. Greencastle followed with its first with 1:37. Both teams scored 12 and the Greencastle went into the break up 29-27.

"At the break we talked about guarding Vickers better. We knew we had to guard him better if we were going to have a chance to win the game in the second half. I thought Anthony Mitchell did a good job on his as did Colyn Foxx," Coble said.

The third quarter was the night's lowest scoring as both teams managed eight each sending the game into the final eight minutes with Greencastle up 37-37. The final quarter started with the Vikings' 6-8 sophomore center Austin Sappingfield hitting a five-foot turn-around to tie the game at 37.

Coble hit a three at the 6:46 mark to go up 42-39. He added a rebound basket at the 2:50 mark to increase his team's lead to 45-41. Ten seconds later, after a steal, Greencastle's Coble made a pass to a wide open Bollman for an easy layup to go up 47-41, a lead the Tiger Cubs would not give up.

"I have total confidence in Bollman and my teammates. If I pass to them and they're wide open I have no problems passing off to them for an easier basket, especially Brody. He has played great the last two night's against bigger players. He has all year and it makes it easy to go to him if he's open," Coble said.

Bollman added two free throws in the final 30 seconds, and Coble added another for the final 52-45 win. For the game Coble led all scorers with 22, Bollman 18. Vickers finished with 18 for the guests, missing his only shot of the game at the horn, a half-court three.

"My hat's off to the Vikings. They came ready to play and played hard. The Vickers kid can shot the long one, We finally decided to guard him there in the second half. The key to the win was turnovers. We forced nine in the first half, six in the second half, with five of those coming in the final quarter.

"It's a big weekend for us getting two nice wins. We'll take them and celebrate them this weekend and then it's back to work Monday. We have South Putnam on Friday and a very tough Edgewood team on Saturday. They're another tough team for us to match up with, but we'll come ready to play and see what happens," Greenlee said.
