County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Ashley Nicole Osborne, 33, Greencastle, was charged with failure to appear.

At 2:19 p.m., Talissa Marie O'Conner-Wade, 24, Greencastle, was arrested for contempt of court.

At 7:33 p.m., Brenda Kay Adams-Hunter, 63, Greencastle, was charged with check deception.

* At 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Kristina Lee Massena, 38, Fillmore, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

At 8:40 p.m., Charles Elrod Baltazar, 34, Los Angeles, Calif., was arrested for possession of marijuana.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

*At 7:29 p.m. Tuesday, Tyler David Vermillion, 24, Greencastle, was arrested at a North College Avenue residence by Sgt. Charles Inman.

Vermillion, who was arrested for invasion of privacy in alleged violation of a protective order against him, was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

*At 10:35 p.m. Monday, Mark Allen Miller, 54, Greencastle, was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear relative to an initial charge of criminal trespass.

Arrested at North Jackson and New York streets by Officer Matt Huffman, Miller was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

One recent traffic citation was issued by city officers.

*At 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Austin Plessinger, 24, Coatesville, was stopped on North Madison Street by Capt. Chris Jones.

Plessinger was ticketed for a child-restraint violation.

Sheriff's Dept.

*At 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Brandon J. Query, 28, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 400 West near County Road 250 South.

Query advised Deputy Tyler Turner that as he was rounding a corner, his 1994 International Straight Truck left the roadway due to the icy conditions and struck a tree.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 12 a.m. on Wednesday, Derek F. Vaughn, 26, Greencastle, was traveling on Skyline Drive.

A passenger in the vehicle, Corey A. Bunten, 26, Greencastle, advised Deputy Josh Boller that he was riding along with Vaughn when they entered the private drive at Wildwood Estates. When making a left turn, Vaughn's 2002 Chevrolet Silverado ran off the roadway striking a 2000 Dodge, owned by Steven and Kelli Warf, which was parked at a residence.

Vaughn continued into the front yard, striking a large tree. He then drove back onto the roadway with a large tree branch on the truck before coming to a stop in a neighbor's front yard.

Bunten advised that he and Vaughn called for a ride after realizing the truck was heavily damaged. However, neither thought to call 911 or advise the owner, Elmer Eger, that his truck had been involved in a serious accident until approximately 5 a.m.

Bunten advised that Vaughn would not return or contact law enforcement due to a possible warrant for his arrest.

At this time, Boller stated he has yet to make contact with Vaughn.

Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed three medical assists and responded to numerous dispatches recently.

*At 4:32 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, GFD was dispatched to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm that was triggered by a dryer vent hose not being properly installed.

*At 3:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, GFD was dispatched to 1601 Hospital Drive for a fire alarm that was triggered by a water line rupture in the residents' kitchen.

*At 6:52 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, GFD was dispatched to 410 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm that was triggered by a candle being blown out.

*At 1:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, GFD was dispatched to 800 S. College Ave. for a fire alarm that was triggered when a fire extinguisher discharged.
