Former Tiger Cub Weatherford to be inducted into IATCCC Hall of Fame

The Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches will induct the 2015 class on Friday, Jan. 30 at the annual clinic, to be held at the Keystone at the Crossing Sheraton Hotel.

The Indiana Track and Field Hall of Fame Museum will hold a reception the honor of the 2015 Class of Inductees at the Hall of Fame building in Terre Haute on Saturday, Jan. 31. It is free to all. The reception will start at 11 a.m., the Hall will be open to all during the day.

Among the inductees will be Greencastle's two-time State championship winner Andy Weatherford.

During his racing career at Greencastle High School, running for GHS coach Mike Schimpf, Weatherford lost only four races. A two-time All-State Cross Country runner (10th in 2005, 20th in 2006) and two-time State Champion in the 1600m (2005, 2006). He ran the seventh fastest 1600m in Indiana track and field history at the 2006 state meet (at that time 4:08.71).

After graduating from Greencastle in 2007, Weatherford attended Indiana University. While competing for Indiana, Andy ran personal best of 1:51 in the 800m, 4:02 in the Mile, 8:11 in the 3,000m, and 8:42 in the 3,000m Steelcase. In 2011 he earned All-American honors in the 3,000m Steeplechase with a 10th place finish at NCAA nationals (8:47.72). In addition to these athletic accomplishments, Weatherford was also a twelve time Big Ten First Team All Academic member.

At the time of his induction to the Indiana Track and Field Track and Cross Country Hall of Fame, Andy was attending graduate school at Washington University in St Louis studying for a PhD in Literature while helping coach the Cross Country and Track teams at the university. One of his athletes was the NCAA DIII Women's 3000m Steeplechase national champion in 2013.

Weatherfords' IHSAA records include a first place finish in the 2006 and 2007 in the 1600 meter run.
