Vera, who was from New Salem, married Verne Walton from North Salem in 1957. They spent most of their life on a farm in the North Salem area.

After retirement, Vera and Verne traveled to numerous World War II reunions around the country and were blessed with many new friendships.

Her husband, Verne, passed away in 2009 and she eventually moved into The Hearth at Prestwick in Avon, followed by Bickford Cottage in Lafayette. Vera's sense of humor and signature phrases made her a popular resident.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa and husband Kurt Harker of West Lafayette; her daughter Amy and husband Stephen Spencer of North Salem; daughter-in-law Kathy Walton; grandchildren Eric Walton, Haylie Spencer and Kelsey Walton and great-granddaughter Rowen Spencer, all of North Salem.

The family would like to extend profound thanks to the staff at Guardian Angel Hospice and Bickford Cottage.
