Stockton names ISP's Warczynski as jail commander
Just three weeks into his term as sheriff, Scott Stockton has been keeping busy making some changes around the department among them, naming a new jail commander.
Stockton announced Thursday afternoon that Patricia C. Warczynski, a 25-year veteran of the Indiana State Police, will assume the role in hopes of bring some diversity to the command staff.
"This is just part of the primary administrative changes that I felt were necessary to provide the best service to the public," Stockton said. "She is not only capable of assuming this role, but has a lot of administrative strengths that she brings to the table."
Warczynski, a 1971 Hanover Central High School graduate, has been a resident of Putnam County since 1995. She was appointed to the Indiana State Police in November 1986 and assigned to the Lowell District where she served as a trooper until December 1995 when she was granted a transfer to the Putnamville Post. Warczynski was promoted to corporal in 1986 and served as district duty officer until 2000 when she was promoted to squad sergeant for Putnam County troopers.
In 2008, she was promoted to First Sergeant, Assistant District Commander at the Putnamville Post before being transferred in 2009 to General Headquarters where she was assigned to Operations Support Division to serve as the Commander of the Capitol Police Section. In 2010, Warczynski was promoted to District Lieutenant and Commander at the Indianapolis District where she served until her retirement in January 2012.
Warczinski is a 2007 graduate of the Southern Police Institute police administration training program. During her tenure with the Indiana State Police, she also served in the capacities of undercover narcotics investigator, field training officer coordinator, internal affairs investigator, recruit school counselor and public information officer.
"Pat Warczynski is extremely qualified and brings a unique set of skills to this agency," Stockton said. "This is also a big step in bringing much needed diversity to the Sheriff's Department command staff."
Warczynski assumed office on Wednesday, Jan. 21. She is the first female jail commander in history to serve at the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. Stockton noted that there was no disruption in the rank structure at the Putnam County Jail. However, former jail commander Joe Myers will now move into the assistant jail commander role.
