Clerk's Office to stay open late Tuesdays

Sunday, January 25, 2015

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 3, the Putnam County Clerk's Office will be staying open late on Tuesday evenings until 6 p.m.

"We would like to be able to assist the public by having an evening time to have access to the services in our office," Clerk Heather Gilbert said. "It has been difficult for families getting passports to take their children out of school, couples to apply for a marriage license when both parties work during the day and for customers to pay child support, court costs and fines and civil payments."

The clerk's office chose Tuesday nights because the courthouse is already open for the probation office on Tuesdays. In this way, it requires no extra staffing from a security officer or custodian.

The clerk's office will continue to open each weekday morning at 8 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday through Friday.

The added Tuesday hours are simply in the name of public convenience.

"We hope this will allow us to better serve the taxpayers of Putnam County," Gilbert said.
