Lady Tigers blow out Big Red, 77-39

The DePauw women's basketball team stayed unbeaten in North Coast Athletic Conference play, cruising to a 77-39 victory over Denison Wednesday night in the Neal Fieldhouse.

DePauw, ranked 10th in the coaches poll and 11th in D3hoops.com poll, improved to 17-1 overall and 10-0 in NCAC play, while the Big Red dropped to 10-9 on the year and 6-4 in the league.

The Tigers opened the first half by making seven of their opening ten shots, grabbing a 19-6 lead eight minutes into the contest. Lauren Abendroth and Emma Ondik paced the DePauw offensive attack, each hitting three threes in the half.

Denison committed 10 turnovers and shot just 38.1 percent (8-for-21), while the Tigers converted on 15-of-28 53.6 percent of their field goals and hit 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from three.

Leading 39-19 at the halftime break, DePauw kept up the offensive pressure, extending their lead to 30 by the 8:23 mark. They would lead by as much as 40 before sealing a 38-point victory.

Ondik dropped a game-high 17 points, while Abendroth added 14 on 5-of-5 shooting and Hannah Douglas totaled 10. Abby Keller grabbed eight rebounds and had eight points in the win.

Denison was led by Taylor Lindquist with eight points and Jordan Holmes grabbed eight rebounds with six points and five blocks in a losing effort.

The Tigers shot 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the floor, including a 9-for-15 60 percent clip from three. DePauw outscored the Big Red 34-15 off the bench and held a 31-27 advantage on rebounds.

Denison committed 17 turnovers and shot just 34.1 percent (15-of-44) from the field.

The Tigers are back in action Saturday, January 31, when they host Oberlin for a 1 p.m. contest.
