'Wit and Wisdom' gardening seminar to be hosted by Master Gardeners

Friday, January 30, 2015

The Putnam County Master Gardeners will host the "Wit and Wisdom" gardening seminar on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Community Building.

Featuring four speakers and a pair of hands on projects, the seminar will run from 7:30 a.m. through 3 p.m. and will include breakfast and lunch.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Amanda Thomsen, author of "Kiss My Aster," an irreverent, interactive guide to gardening. Thomsen will be sharing her best gardening pearls of wisdom.

Also sharing their wit and wisdom will be Carol Michel, speaking on organic gardening; Ann Delchambre, discussing fruit trees; and Larry Caplan, whose topic "Stupid Human Diseases of Landscape" will be a discussion of what not to do in landscaping.

Participants may also choose between one of two hands-on projects, either pressing flowers or creating a gardener journal.

All participants will also receive a tree seedling.

There will also be a silent auction of five framed prints by artist Nancy Noel.

Early registration is due by Feb. 3 at a cost of $45 per person or $80 for two.

After Feb. 3, registration is $55 per person or $100 per pair.
