GHS music students earn top scores at contest

On Saturday, Jan. 31, members of the Greencastle High School Band participated in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest at Terre Haute North High School.

GHS students were entered in three different levels of performance.

Those receiving a gold rating in Group I will be performing at the band concert on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m in Parker Auditorium at GHS. They also will be participating at the Feb. 28 state contest.

The Greencastle Band is under the direction of Robert Hedge.

Here are the GHS results from the contest:

GROUP III -- Gold Rating, Layna Robinson, flute solo; Rose White, trombone solo; Ben Gellman, trumpet solo; Josh Lamb, snare drum solo; Woodwind Quintet, Amy Gong, Madeline Graham, Justin Berish, Jack Romer, Simon Foss; Brass Quintet, Connor Stimpert, Braden Pershing, Rose White, Daniel Williams, Ben Gellman; Percussion Quartet, Abby Walker, Katerina King, Alex Weliever, Josh lamb. Silver Rating: Gabby Selvia, clarinet solo; Participation, Adrian Peters, Tenor Sax.

GROUP II -- Gold Rating, Kelly Hansen, baritone solo; Yuji Mozawa, baritone solo; Woodwind Trio, Lydia Trout, Madison Trout, Gabby Selvia; Silver Rating, Amy Gong, flute.

GROUP I -- Gold Rating, Zach Wilkerson, alto sax solo; Connor Stimpert, trumpet solo; Nicholas Seaman, trumpet solo; Mattia Seaman, horn solo; Abby Walker, snare drum solo; Sax Quartet, Ichiro Mozawa, Tyler Lamb, Kaitlyn Kessler, Madi Woodall; Trumpet Trio, Katie Rose Parsons, Connor Stimpert, Nicholas Seaman. Silver Rating, Ichiro Mozawa, alto sax solo; Beth Ann Hansen, trombone solo; Participation, Libby Brush, Marimba Solo.
