DPU women remain third at NCAC championships

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- After a solid day of competition, the DePauw women stayed in third place at the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships with 823 points.

Denison leads with 1,349, while Kenyon is second with 1,208 and Oberlin fourth with 629.

The 200-yard medley relay of Annie Graves, Dana Zerbini, Jamie Fritsch and Ellen Riehle started the evening with a fourth-place showing in 1:49.33.

The night's second event, the 400 individual medley, was a thriller as Angela Newlon finished second to Denison's Taylor Johns by .01 seconds after finishing in 4:24.49 which broke her own school record she set in the prelims. Jeanne Cullen was 14th in the event in 4:39.53.

Morgan Graves was eighth in the 100 butterfly in 59.31, while Fritsch was ninth in 59.65.

Emily Weber earned all-NCAC honors in the 200 free after finishing third in 1:52.02 with Kirsten Olson placing 10th in 1:53.51, Erin Horne in 12th in 1:54.81 and Caroline Bridges in 15th in 1:55.73.

Zerbini posted the Tigers' top finish in the 100 breaststroke after finishing 11th in 1:08.74.

Annie Graves then broke the school record in the 100 backstroke after earning all-NCAC accolades with a third-place showing in 57.64. Emma Haynes was eighth in the event in 1:00.37 with Danielle Dattilio was 15th in 1:02.33.

Morgan Flowers qualified for the one-meter diving finals and placed eighth with 290.10 points. Samantha Ostreicher was 13th with 220.15 points.

The Tigers' 800 free relay of Olson, Weber, Horne and Newlon finishing second in 7:29.17.

Saturday's final day of competition gets under way with prelims at 10 a.m.
