Lizzie E. (McClain) Hewitt, 88, of Greenwood, formerly of Cloverdale, passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2015.

She was born May 14, 1926 in Celina, Tenn., to the late Lunie and Julie (Dailey) McClain.

In 1947, she moved to Indianapolis with her sister for work.

She met Richard Hewitt and they married in 1949 and began their family.

She was a devoted wife of 50 years and was preceded by her husband, Richard Hewitt, on Oct. 15, 2001.

As a proud mother of three, she enjoyed nothing more than the company of her family.

Farming, fishing, gardening, reading the Bible and watching "her" Pacers play basketball were her favorite hobbies.

Survivors include her children, James (Rosalee) Hewitt of Indianapolis, Marlene (David) Whitman of Greenwood, and Rick (Chris) Hewitt of Fillmore; grandchildren Kevin Sifford, Steve Sifford of Arkansas; Brian Elmore of Indianapolis, Kevin (Terry) Elmore of Monrovia, Tucker Hewitt of Indianapolis, Tyler Hewitt of Terre Haute, Katie Hewitt of Fillmore; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parent and siblings Harley, Paul, Leon, Milas, Eva, Nolie, Kate, Ozella, Linnie, Nola, Ethel and Ella. She was the last of the McClain generation.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Simplicity Funeral Care, 7520 Madison Ave., Indianapolis.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at the funeral home.
