It's Chili Weather

Sunday, February 22, 2015
Chili lovers and Red Cross supporters are invited to get out and spice up their February from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 at the Greencastle National Guard Armory at the corner of Arlington Street and Shadowlawn Avenue. A free will offering will be collected at the door for the meal that includes chili and cornbread donated by The Waters of Greencastle, desserts prepared by Delta Theta Tau members and drinks from Putnam Inn. Red Cross volunteers and other sponsors who recently gathered at the Greencastle Fire Department to announce the event included (front, from left) Jay Helmer and Kathie Skeel of the Red Cross, The Waters chef Robin Hazelbaker, Rita Ferguson of Delta Theta Tau, CERT president Pam Pierce, Ginger Scott of the Red Cross, (back) Deputy Tom Helmer, Amy Gharbi of The Waters, Brooke Trissel of the Red Cross, Rhonda Brotherton of Putnam Inn, Greencastle Fire Chief Bill Newgent and Greencastle Police Chief Tom Sutherlin. Besides the chili, the event will also include a silent auction, emcee Mike Welsh of Sounds Unlimited and a special performance by Him & Her (Joel and Tosh Everson of War Radio). Proceeds will help the local Red Cross chapter continue to serve local families. In 2014, the American Red Cross served victims of 10 single- and multi-family fires as well as 11 armed forces families. The average cost to serve a single-family disaster is $500-$600.
