Marie Powell

Marie Powell, 88, of Cloverdale, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015.

Born May 11, 1926 in Louisville, Ky., she was the daughter of Frank and Daisy (Sheffield) Pierce.

She was a 1944 graduate of Belle Union High School.

She married Hubert E. Powell on Jan. 5, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2007.

Marie was a homemaker and had worked in retail for Schultz's, Pell's, Cloverdale IGA and Cloverdale Flower Shop.

She was a member of the Mt. Hebron Church, Cloverdale, and a more than 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Marie was a gifted painter, seamstress and crafts person. She took great pride in the quality of her work on any project undertaken.

She loved wildlife and the outdoors, and for many years was the companion of her husband and son on hunting excursions. She enjoyed no activity more than fishing, always ready to go at a moment's notice.

She was selfless in her love and devotion to family.

Survivors include her son, Terry (Pamela) Powell, of Clermont, and daughter, Judy Powell, of Cloverdale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents Cloyd and Rosalie Allen; husband, Hubert Powell; brothers Lawrence and Thomas Pierce; and a sister, Agnes McCracken.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 at the Cloverdale Cemetery.
