PUTNAMVILLE -- The Putnamville Correctional Facility has been celebrating February as Black History Month.

Approximately 87 offenders participated in the Black History Month presentation at PCF which included a few keynote speakers.

Indiana State Instructor of African American Studies Rev. Terry Clark was in attendance this year along with Chaplains Jerry Anderson and Ernie Rush. Also present were caseworker manager Kumaran, Assistant Superintendent of Operations Tim Phegley and volunteer coordinator Angela Taylor.

"Our history helps us shape and develop who we are today, as well as the future," Superintendent Stanley Knight told the group.

Artwork portraying famous historical characters such as Barack Obama, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr. and Clementine Hunter were portrayed for all to view.

To honor the day, offenders also submitted essays exemplifying African American history.
