Big Red beat Tigers' lacrosse in NCAC opener

20th-ranked Denison handed the DePauw men's lacrosse team their second loss of the season Monday night, taking down the Tigers by a score of 20-2.

The Big Red picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while DePauw fell to 1-2 on the year and 0-1 in the league standings.

Denison scored 16-straight goals before Nick Woerner tallied the Tigers' first goal on an assist from Andrew Wright with 12:22 left in the fourth. Wright would add DePauw's second goal just under two minutes later on an assist from Woerner. The Big Red closed the contest, scoring four consecutive goals.

Liam Rooney and James Meager paced Denison with four goals each, while Will Donohue and Rooney tallied three assists. The Big Red held a 72-11 advantage on shots and won 19 of the 26 faceoffs, while maintaining a 45-21 advantage on ground balls.

The Tigers committed 30 turnovers and were successful on just 5-of-20 clears. Grant Skipper led DePauw with four ground ball pickups, while Zach Taylor made 16 saves in a losing effort.

DePauw is back in action Saturday, March 7, when they travel to Albion for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
