City Police

A 23-year-old Greencastle man was lodged in the Putnam County Jail, facing multiple charges after allegedly damaging a dozen vehicles at an Indianapolis Road car dealership early Tuesday, City Police reported.

Christopher Todd Smith has been charged with criminal mischief, intimidation, disorderly conduct and public intoxication after reportedly damaging 11 new 2015 vehicles at York Automotive and another car at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 1501 Indianapolis Rd.

Damage was estimated at $12,000-$15,000.

A caller reportedly notified police that someone was vandalizing cars on the York lot by throwing objects at them.

Sgt. Chris Jones arrested Smith a short time later at 1:10 a.m. on the parking lot of the nearby Dollar General.

* At 4:59 p.m. Sunday, Officer Jeff Modlin was called to the Walmart store on Indianapolis Road to investigate a reported theft.

Arrested for theft and lodged in the Putnam County Jail was Michael Anvoots, 26, Greencastle.

He allegedly took jewelry items, valued at $25.68, and concealed them in his pants, police said.

In addition to the theft charge, Anvoots is facing charges of trespassing, possession of a controlled substance and violation of probation.

* At 12:36 a.m. Saturday, Franklin Lenihan, 20, Brazil, was arrested by Officer Matt Huffman on North College Avenue at Moore Court.

Lenihan was lodged in the jail on a domestic battery charge.

One recent property-damage accident was reported by city officers.

* At 7:09 p.m. Friday, a two-vehicle mishap occurred on North Jackson Street near Depot Street as a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am was southbound, driven by Katie Douglas, 19, Greencastle.

She told Sgt. Charles Inman that she glanced away from the roadway momentarily, and was unsure what happened, but when she looked back a southbound 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by Isuf Vesdi, 63, Kentand, was right in front of her. Douglas said she couldn't stop in time to avoid a collision.

Meanwhile, Vesdi said he was neither slowing nor stopping and was surprised when his car was struck from behind.

Impact sent the Douglas car spinning out of control, police said.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

Three recent citations were issued by city officers.

* At 11:20 pm. Saturday, Tu Lan, 21, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Nick Eastham.

Lan was cited on Bloomington Street for a learner's permit violation.

* At 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jordan Kelly, 21, Greencastle, received a pair of citations from Officer Albert Epple.

She was ticketed on Avenue D for an infraction of driving with a suspended license and for having no proof of financial responsibility (no insurance).

County Jail

One person was lodged in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 5:25 p.m. Monday, Andreas Kyle Kirby, 23, Crawfordsville, was charged with trafficking a scheduled drug.

Sheriff's Department

One recent property-damage accident was investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 2:39 p.m. Thursday, Laconda J. Pilkin, 68, Greencastle, advised Deputy Adam Hull that she was northbound on U.S. 231 in a Nissan station wagon when debris fell from another vehicle, striking her hood and causing damage to the vehicle.

Pilkin called 911 to report the incident and the license plate information but dispatch was unable to get a return on the license.

Damage to Pilkin's vehicle was estimated at $1,001-$5,000.

Fire Department

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to four medical assists and numerous dispatches recently.

* At 4:18 p.m. Saturday, GFD was called to Irwin Bridge for a one-vehicle motor vehicle accident that took out a telephone pole.

* At 5:28 p.m. Saturday, GFD responded to a structure fire call at 1100 Horseshoe Dr. but upon arrival, smoke was found to be coming from food in the stove.

* At 1:11 a.m. Sunday, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm due to cooking at 304 S. Indiana St.

* At 2:36 a.m. Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. but upon arrival, it was found to have been triggered by a pull station with no fire present.

* At 1:14 p.m. Saturday, GFD was called to assist Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire at 32 Johnathon Lane.

* At 6:20 p.m. Saturday, GFD was called to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm due to cooking.

* At 11:41 a.m. Monday, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm triggered by cooking at 415 Anderson St.

* At 11:52 a.m. Monday, GFD extinguished a brush fire at 1699 N. CR 175 North.

* At 6:06 a.m. Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at the corner of East Washington and Percy Julian Drive.
