PC Commissioners, Council to meet jointly Friday morning

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

The Putnam County Commissioners and Putnam County Council will meet in a joint session at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 20.

The special public meeting will take place in the Commissioners Courtroom on the first floor of the Putnam County Courthouse.

The two boards are meeting to explore funding solutions regarding a proposed $960,000 software upgrade for Putnam County 911 Dispatch.

The county's current 911 software is outdated and will no longer have technical support from the vendor as of July 1.

County officials will discuss a variety of issues relating to the upgrade, including financing options, possible use of the county's Hazardous Waste Fund and the possibility of instituting a Local Option Income Tax for public safety.

The issue of the software upgrade will be explored in more depth in an upcoming story on bannergraphic.com as well as in the Friday, March 20 print edition of the Banner Graphic.

    Response by Jared Jernagan:
    It's pretty much broken.

And more to the point, it's completely outdated and if it really breaks, there will be absolutely no one available to fix it. At that point, the county will struggle to provide emergency services to its 38,000 residents.
