Playhouse auditions for opener slated March 29-20

Director Shelly McFadden will hold two sessions of auditions for the Putnam County Playhouse production of the musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."

The season-opening show for Putnam County Playhouse, it will be produced June 4-6 and June 10-13.

The first audition session will be Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m. in the rehearsal center at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre in Greencastle. A second session will be Monday, March 30 at 7 p.m. at the same location.

Those auditioning are asked to prepare 16 measures of a song from the show or another similar musical. An accompanist will be provided and a capella auditions are discouraged. There will also be a dance audition and readings from the script.

Roles available include Adam Pontipee, the backwoods man looking for a wife; Milly, the girl he chooses; the six other Pontipee brothers and the six girls they kidnap and plan to marry; six suitors for the other girls; and various townspeople.

There are no specific roles for children, but the director may use a few children in the town scenes.

"Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" is based on the film of the same title and includes many of the songs from it. Some new songs were also written especially for the show.
