Banner Graphic/Sabrina Westfall Resident Lisa Alsum and CNA Cheryl Smith were very excited as Elvis, portrayed by Tom Winders, sang to them.

Elvis was only one of attractions to Hickory Creek at Sunset's celebration Friday afternoon.

The facility named a 10-year veteran as the employee of the year during a special celebration.

Crystal Maupin, of Cloverdale, is a certified nurse's aide (CNA) at the healthcare facility in Greencastle. She was honored during a 1950s themed celebration at the South Indiana Street facility. The event was clad with poodle skirts, banana splits and a performance by Elvis, portrayed by Tom Winders.

Hickory Creek administrator Tracy Dewey said each month the staff and residents vote on the employee of the month. Each year during a special celebration, the staff and residents vote on one of the 12 employees to be the employee of the year.

"She does so much extra. Just yesterday she brought a purse in for one of the residents and left it in her room. She does secret stuff all of the time," Dewey said.

Director of Nursing Denise Lakin said Maupin is a blessing to the facility and the residents.

"Crystal always provides the best possible care, and always jumps in without having to be asked," Lakin said.

Maupin said she has been a CNA for 30 years, and her love of the residents is why she loves her job and continues to go above and beyond in her career.
