City candidate debate set April 8 at DPU's Watson Forum

The Greencastle League of Women Voters , WGRE Radio and the Banner-Graphic are co-sponsoring a Candidates Forum for the Greencastle Community to be conducted Wednesday, April 8.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. in Watson Forum of the Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media (southeast corner of Locust and Elm streets) on the DePauw University campus.

The forum, which also will be broadcast live on WGRE (91.5 FM) radio and on Greencastle's local cable access Channel 3, will feature candidates running for Greencastle City Council, mayor and clerk-treasurer.

Scheduled to debate at the April 8 forum are Haywood Ware and Jim Wright, Republican candidates for mayor, and Tanis Monday and Benny Whitlock, Democratic candidates for the Fourth Ward City Council seat.

All unopposed city primary candidates in attendance will be invited to give a statement about their candidacy. They include:

-- William Dory (D), mayor.

-- Lynda Dunbar (R) and Eric Wolfe (D), city clerk-treasurer.

-- Wally Hinkle (R), Harry Maginity (R) and Dave Murray (D), City Council at-large. (At-large candidates Mark Hammer (R) and Gary Lemon (D) will be unable to attend due to prior commitments).

-- Danny Mesecher (R) and Adam Cohen (D), City Council First Ward.

-- Stacie Langdon (R) and Brian Cox (D), City Council Second Ward.

-- Harold Barger (R) and Steve Fields (D), City Council Third Ward.

-- Tyler Wade (R), City Council Fourth Ward.

At the conclusion of the forum audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates. Refreshments will be served.
