Cougar baseball team sweeps Covington

COVINGTON -- North Putnam's baseball team came out on top against Covington Saturday, in a doubleheader in which both games went to the Cougars.

Game one went back and forth with North Putnam grabbing momentum late and winning.

The Cougars fell behind early in the second game but rallied late to take the win by one run.

The first game saw Max Haste earned eight strikeouts in four innings. North Putnam managed three runs in the second inning before Covington countered in the third with three runs of its own.

North Putnam then scored two runs in the fifth that were then matched again by Covington who scored its two runs in the sixth.

The Cougars did not back off though after a scoreless seventh and eighth inning, The Cougars put up two in the top of the ninth and then held Covington scoreless to take the game one win.

Hayden Rudes recorded three RBIs in the game.

After falling behind by four after the first two innings in game two, North Putnam began the comeback trail. The Cougars scored two in the third and one in the fourth.

However Covington scored two more in the bottom of the fourth to maintain its lead.

Those were the last runs the Trojans scored. The Cougars stayed alive by scoring three runs in what would have been the final inning, however they held Covington scoreless.

North Putnam then put up one run in the eighth inning and took the win with defense in the last inning.
