Greencastle tennis team sweeps South Putnam

Greencastle's tennis team hosted South Putnam, its early season rivalry match and the Tiger Cubs got the best of the Eagles in a 5-0 win.

GHS' Bailey Zapp won against Olivia Arnold 6-3, 6-0 in No. 1 singles.

At No. 2 singles Rachel Chadd won decisively 6-1, 6-0 over Eagles Savannah Adams.

Madison Trout was perfect against Katie Kiste 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles slot.

"I was very proud of our team today," GHS coach Kevin Rowe said. "I thought we played well. I know the girls and I have been waiting for this season to start for quite a while."

Lily Spencer and Lydia Trout of Greencastle won at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-1 against Allacyn Arnold and Elizabeth Bunton while Kaylea Torr and Alex Weliever won the closest match of the evening at No. 2 doubles 6-4, 6-3 against Cora Neudeck and Chloe Maginity.

"It was the first match jitters," Eagle coach John Briones said. "We were doing a good job of staying focused and winning the mental game. We have to continue to work hard. We have Turkey Run tomorrow at home."
