GHS softball comes up short at Edgewood

Sunday, April 19, 2015

ELLETTSVILLE -- The GHS softball team saved all its scoring for late in the game but they weren't able to complete the comeback and against undefeated Edgewood Saturday. The Tiger Cubs lost on the road 8-6.

Edgewood scored one in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth.

This left the Tiger Cubs, who had only scored once in the fourth, in a hole heading into the sixth inning. Greencastle then took a shot at the lead, scoring five runs, but could not get the additional two to extend the game.

Junior Kenlee Johnson came up big in the batter's box. She recorded her second homer of the year and notched three RBIs and a run. Freshman Brynne Shuee also continued her success at the plate when she hadtwo RBIs and scored a run.

Freshman Layna Robinson also contributed to the cause, notching a single and an RBI for the team.

Sophomore Skyler Hensley, who wasn't feeling well Friday against Crawfordsville, struggled on the mound. She gave up nine hits in her seven innings with five earned runs and a season-low one strikeout.

GHS only had one day of rest before back-to-back contests with WCC rival Cascade on Monday and Tuesday.
