Bill Dory announces his intention to continue to serve the residents of Greencastle and Putnam County by seeking the office of mayor of the City of Greencastle on the Demcrat ticket.

Dory has served as executive director of the Greencastle/Putnam County Development Center since 1995.

"I am humbled to be asked to serve the community

as its mayor," noted Dory. "This community, as well as the county, has benefited from great leadership in elected positions, including the office of the mayor and the City Council for several decades.

"The community has developed partnerships with the county, the State of Indiana, our educational institutions and many other partners," he added. "It is important to continue the momentum of community success most recently seen in the Stellar Communities work."

As executive director of the Development Center, Dory has worked on numerous projects in Greencastle and throughout Putnam County that have supported significant job creation and investment by the private sector. Teamwork with and the support of local officials, city departments, state agencies, utilities and many others helped to ensure the success of each individual project and the growth of the community. He said hi work with the city, the county and other communities and the private sector provides the foundation to serve the community if elected to the office of mayor.

The mayor plays a key role in leading the community and capitalizing on new opportunities, Dory pointed out.

"As a community, we need to continue to invest in our quality of life and our educational opportunities," he said. "Today, people seek out the community they wish to live in which is why the Stellar Communities project and other quality of life investments are so important. We need to understand this demographic shift and respond in a fiscally responsible way to continue to attract new families and businesses."

Dory noted how fortunate the community is to offer a wide range of services under a great team of department heads and their employees. If elected mayor, Dory intends to continue the services that citizens enjoy and expect.

"In the future, education will also play a key role in the success of our community and its citizens," he added. "We have great local schools and the opportunity for our residents to pursue post secondary education through Ivy Tech Community College and DePauw University."

As mayor, Dory hopes to set the tone and provide encouragement to increase the utilization of such "outstanding resources."

Dory received his Bachelor of Environmental Design from Miami University and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois.

Since joining the Greencastle community in 1983, he has served as the director of Main Street Greencastle and on various community boards on projects.

Dory currently serves on the board of the Rotary Club of Greencastle and the Western Indiana Workforce Investment Board. He has served as president and board member of the Indiana Economic Development Association and continues to serve on its legislative committee, often working to support new tools communities can use to grow and prosper.

Bill and Kathryn Dory have been married for nearly 34 years. Kathryn is the music director at the Greencastle Middle School, responsible for the band and choir programs.

Both of their children, William and Sarah, attended and graduated from Greencastle High School. William received his Bachelor's Degree from Miami University and is now working on his Ph.D. in foreign affairs and diplomacy at the University of Georgia. Sarah will soon receive a Bachelor's Degree in Theater Technology and a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Evansville.
