Brian Cox is a candidate for the Second Ward Greencastle City Council seat on the Democrat ticket in the May 5 primary.

The 38-year-old Cox, who resides at 707 Highridge Ave., grew up on a dairy farm in Westfield. He worked and managed the farm with his family until 2006, when he moved to Greencastle and began a new career in insurance. He is currently an agent in Crawfordsville.

Brian has been married to Brooke Cox, a librarian at DePauw University, for 12 years. They are the parents of two children, Henry, 9, and Josie, 5.

Greencastle is the city Cox and his family chose to call home. He met his wife here in 1997. His children started preschool here and will graduate from here.

Cox said he has "seen the recent growth and improvements in the city and would like the opportunity to help keep the momentum going by actively working alongside others to make Greencastle the best city it can be."

The Council candidate said he enjoys living in Greencastle and is actively engaged all around town.

He is the executive director for the Putnam County Summer Enrichment Program and serves as secretary for the Greencastle Castlemakers, an innovative maker program for local youth.

He is an active member of the PTO for Tzouanakis and Deer Meadow schools, and served as president for Deer Meadow during 2013-14.

Cox also coaches soccer for the Putnam County Youth Soccer Association and basketball for the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department's Youth Basketball Program.

He currently serves on the city of Greencastle Board of Zoning Appeals.

He and his family are members of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church.
