Injury problems have hurt the Tiger Cub softball team's momentum and some good outings have ended in losses for Greencastle. The team's latest contest Thursday against Rockville looked promising until a late surge by the Rox gave the visitors a 14-13 win.

"I'm so proud of those girls," GHS coach Dave Keller said. "We have not hit in a while. We may not have played the best defense tonight but we hit."

After Rachel Dozier's RBI gave GHS one run in the first, the Tiger Cubs rattled off five in the second inning with Dozier hitting a homer over the fence and into the bleachers and Skyler Hensley and Grace Paul each earning an RBI.

Paige Bragg hit a single that led to a run in the third inning while Greencastle held Rockville to just two runs in each the first and the third.

The Tiger Cubs continued to pour it on in the fourth inning scoring four more runs. Paul, Keller and Gracie Foster each earned a double with the latter two notching an RBI.

Then with the game at 11-4 in favor of the Tiger Cubs, Rockville went on a tear, scoring six runners on six consecutive batters in the fifth inning.

Greencastle responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Keller earning another RBI.

Hensley who has pitched the majority of the games for GHS came out in the sixth inning and Julia Mundy came in to finish the contest.

Mundy held the Rox to one run in the sixth inning but with the score 13-11 Greencastle and with runners on base, the Tiger Cubs couldn't extent their lead.

Rockville then scored three runs to give itself the 14-13 lead and it held GHS scoreless in the seventh and final inning.

Keller was happy about the way the ball came off the bat and the amount of runs his team was able to put up.

"Even those last three outs," Keller said. "Line drives, what else can you ask for? I'm awful proud of this team. At this point in the season being 3-6 we are a couple a swings away from being 6-3."

Keller believes tough losses like this one will help fuel his team for the tough sectional battles it will face in the post-season.

Greencastle will face Danville at home Friday before a three-game road trip.
