ELLETTSVILLE -- The Eagle tennis team has been steadily improving but coach John Briones wants to see a more aggressive South Putnam team. Briones was happy at the effort of his Lady Eagles despite the 4-1 loss at Edgewood Thursday.

"The team played a lot better than the previous night," Briones said. " They were more confident and more aggressive. They played some of their best tennis."

Olivia Arnold took the only victory for South Putnam at 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 but some of the Eagle matches were closer than recent matches, including Elizabeth Bunton in the No. 2 singles who lost a close one 6-4, 6-3.

"In the No. 1 singles, Arnold came away with the lone win," Briones said. I'm very proud of Olivia. She kept her composure and pulled out the three-set match. It was a great defensive game from her."

Katie Kiste lost her match in two sets with each a score of 6-0 and the No. 1 doubles lost 6-0 and 6-1.

Chloe Maginity and Cora Neudeck lost in the No. 2 doubles, 6-1 and 6-2.

The Eagle JV team won 4-1.

South Putnam will travel to Egewood to face the Mustangs on Monday.
