North Putnam High School was recently designated as one of the state's prestigious Four-Star Schools by Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz Tuesday.

This is the school corporation's third consecutive Four Star designation, an achievement principal Jason Chew is proud to have earned.

"We are excited to be named a Four Star School again for the third year in a row," he said.

"This award validates the work that our students and staff are doing each day while in the classroom at North Putnam. This demonstrates the cooperation and preparation that is taking place within our district to ensure that when students come to the high school they are ready to be successful."

In order to earn this designation, a school must be in the top 25th percentile of schools in two ISTEP-based categories. Additionally, a qualifying school must have earned an "A" in the state's accountability system and be accredited by the Indiana Department of Education.

A total of 281 schools received the award for the 2013-2014 academic year across the state.

"The Four Star school designation is not only an award for our high school but should be seen as an award for each person in our corporation," Chew said.

Ritz congratulated the achievement of the school's who earned the distinction.

"I am honored to name these schools as our Four Star Schools for this year," She said.

"Winning this award is a testament to the excellent work done by teachers, administrators, students and parents throughout the year. On behalf of the entire Indiana Department of Education I send them my sincere congratulations."
