Harry Maginity in bid for at-large seat on GOP ticket

Harry Maginity is a Republican candidate for one of the three at-large seats on the Greencastle City Council in the May 5 city primary election.

Maginity, 70, is a graduate of Greencastle High School and holds a master's degree from Indiana State University.

From working the second shift in the foundry at P.R. Mallory to current employment as a public information officer for the Indiana Department of Transportation, Maginity's varied career experience includes:

* Journalism -- WTHI/Terre Haute, Terre Haute Tribune-Star, KDIN/Des Moines, Des Moines Register.

* Advertising/marketing -- creative director at Caldwell-Van Riper/Indianapolis and Imagermakers/Cincinnati, plus 25 years self-employment as commercial writer, filmmaker/videographer and convention producer/meeting planner.

* Successful projects for the following clients: Hendricks and Parke County tourism groups; Indianapolis Private Industry Council, Proctor & Gamble, General Electric, Mayflower Transit, McDonald's, Heritage Group, Hill Rom, Elanco, Caterpillar, Twin Disc (transmissions), Hendrickson (suspensions), Kiwanis International, American Legion and Walther Cancer Foundation.

The candidate also has served as director of Sonshine Inn, a Christian outreach ministry in Fountain Square, for seven years.

He views his candidacy for an at-large seat on the Greencastle Common Council as "a focused opportunity for community service."

Harry and his wife, Sue, reside at 646 E. Seminary St. They have five children and 18 grandchildren. One granddaughter is a senior at South Putnam High School. Another is a fifth-grader at Central Elementary, a grandson is a sophomore at Greencastle High School.
