Town of Cloverdale to host community day
CLOVERDALE -- The Town of Cloverdale will be hosting a community day June 13.
Clerk-treasurer Cheryl Galloway said the event is an extension of last year's 175th anniversary for the town. She said community members enjoyed the celebration, so the town wants to continue the event, but on a smaller scale.
"It was a success, so the community businesses wanted to do it again," Galloway explained.
The event will be on Grant and Logan streets near the Town Hall. Vendors will be set up in the area, and people are encouraged to have yard sales in coordination with the event. Galloway said vendor space will be free of charge.
The town will also have a bounce house set up for the children.
Galloway added some specifics about the event, such as the time, have not been worked out yet. Anyone interested is encouraged to contact Town Hall to register for space. She will also be using last year's vendor list to contact those who participated at the last celebration.
The clerk-treasurer said this event can serve as a way for people in the community to clean out the clutter from the winter, and also get out into the town.
Cloverdale Police Chief Mike Clark said the department's K9, Chewy, will be in attendance at the community day. He said last year's celebration served as a fundraiser to bring Chewy to the department, so the community will be able to meet the K9 they helped purchase.
Clark recalled the fundraising event last year, in which the community donated money in the name of the officer they wanted to see put on a handler glove and get 'attacked' by a K9 during a demonstration at the celebration.
"I got every single bid," Clark said. "But, we raised quite a bit of money."
Galloway added the town is seeking homeowners in Cloverdale to participate in a 50-50 sidewalk project. The project helps homeowners repair the sidewalk in front of their home by paying for half of the project. The homeowner is then only responsible for half of the cost of
the concrete.
Clark noted many people are not aware the upkeep of the sidewalk is the responsibility of the homeowner, and not the responsibility of the town.
So far, only one person has signed up for the project. Galloway said the plan is to continue working with the community until the alloted funds run out.
This is one of many projects the town is working on to beautify the area, including work on local roads.
Anyone interested in signing up for a vendor spot at the community day or learning more about the sidewalk project can contact Town Hall at 765-795-6033.
