GHS takes first over North Putnam and Crawfordsville

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

The Greencastle boys' golf team bounced back from a third-place finish at the Tiger Cub Invitational and took first in a meet with North Putnam Crawfordsville with 173 points on Tuesday. The Cougars scored a 180 and Crawfordsville had 193.

"Jake Bennett had his best score of the season with a 39," GHS coach Stephen Paquin said. "He was consistent with his ball striking and putting. The other Cubs had their problem on very fast greens where they had three and four putts which added up to bogeys and double bogeys."

Despite the disadvantages the Tiger Cubs still recorded the best scores of the night, with only North Puntnam's Austin Judy getting a lower score than Jake Buis or Carl Basile's 43.

Judy had 42 while Danny Smith had 43 for the Cougars.

"Concentration on speed of the putts was their biggest problem," Paquin said. "The other schools seemed to have the same problems. Austin Judy was low for the Cougars with a 42 and Hutson was low for Crawfordsville."

GHS' next meet will be Thursday @ Windy Hill against Cascade and Monrovia.

North Putnam will next play at the WCC Tourney Saturday at Deer Creek.
