The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College 177th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 2 represented the culmination of students' academic achievement and personal growth. President Dottie King, Ph.D., presented 91 traditional, online and graduate students with their degrees. The graduates represent eight states and one foreign country. Among those graduating were ALEXANDRA BOYCE of Fillmore and ASHLEY ROSS of Greencastle.

Boyce, daughter of Shawn and Traci Boyce, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in early childhood education with mild intervention.

Ross, daughter of Brad and Jeri Ross, also graduated with a Bachelor of Science in early childhood education with mild intervention. She plans to continue working at Round Barn Day Care in Greencastle, where she currently teaches three-year-olds and serves as assistant director.

Indiana State Auditor Suzanne Crouch delivered the commencement address and received an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris Causa from SMWC. Crouch shared her experiences with the graduates -- how she overcame adversity, triumphed after loss and kept moving forward despite not always knowing exactly where she was going.

"It is okay if you stumble and fall, as long as you pick yourself up," Crouch said. "It might take you some time to find your passion and path in life, but that is okay as long as you are always moving forward and never looking back. I am excited by the countless opportunities you all have to make a difference in our world. I am so honored to be here to share in your accomplishments thus far, and I look forward to witnessing the greatness you will bring to the world."
