Legionburger Sellout

Sunday, May 10, 2015
With Legionburgers, a Putnam County institution, sizzling on the grill Saturday afternoon, members of Greencastle American Legion Post 58 -- (from left) Julie Wood and David Hollis on the grill and Alicia Linton wrapping burgers -- scurry to fill orders during the annual Legionburger Drive-Through at the Legion post on Indianapolis Road. By 2 p.m., the full complement of 1,500 Legionburgers readied for the occasion had been sold out, leaving those with a craving for the traditional treats to wait until Putnam County Fair time to quench their desire. The Legion also will be cooking and selling Legionburgers during the Berry Street Festival, the first Saturday in October. Sales of the little burgers and other fundraisers enable the local post to donate approximately $20,000 annually to local organizations and events. (Banner Graphic/Eric Bernsee)
