County Jail

Three people were booked into the Putnam County Jail Thursday.

* At 10 a.m., Jonathan Leroy McGowan, 34, Spanaway, Wash., was arrested for probation violation and possession of paraphernalia.

* At 4:07 p.m., David Scott Branagin, 43, Greencastle, was charged with failure to register as a sex offender.

* At 5:45 p.m., Melissa Ann Welch, 44, Coatesville, was booked in on a Hendricks County court order for escape.

City Police

Two recent warrant arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 11:37 p.m., Thursday, Carol Anderson, 37, Cloverdale, was arrested at a Castlebury Apartments unit by Sgt. Charles Inman.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Anderson was arrested on an Owen County warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of illegal possession of a firearm.

* At 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Anthony Dodson, 31, Coatesville, was arrested at the Putnam County Courthouse by Capt. Chris Jones.

Arrested on a Putnam County warrant to revoke bond in a previous operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated case, Dodson was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Two recent speeding citations were issued by GPD Officer Nick Eastham.

* At 12:33 a.m. Thursday, Gaylene Wilkinson, 50, Cary, N.C., was stopped on Bloomington Street by Officer Eastham.

Wilkinson was ticketed for 60 mph in a 30-mph zone.

* At 3:26 a.m. Friday, Nicholas Satterthwaite, 21, Jenkintown, Pa., was stopped by Officer Eastham at Bloomington and Martinsville streets.

Satterthwaite was cited for 57 mph in a 30-mph zone.

Sheriff's Department

Two recent one-vehicle accidents were investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Michael P. Busch, 24, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 50 South approaching County Road 475 East in a 1995 Ford F250.

Busch told Deputy Matt Biggs he was traveling 50 to 55 mph when the vehicle began to "hop."

He then let off the throttle and hit the brakes, but was unable to regain control.

The truck turned 180 degrees before leaving the north side of the road, hitting the ditch and rolling onto its top.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

Busch was uninjured in the accident.

* At 1:05 p.m. Thursday, Eric W. Brown, 53, Ladoga, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, pulling a boat trailer with a 17-foot boat.

Brown told Capt. Tom Helmer he apparently fell asleep and traveled across the southbound lane.

Vehicle left the road on the west side and went down a grass embankment, where it impacted a ditch before continuing across a cornfield. It came to rest about 150 feet from the point of leaving the road.

Brown was uninjured.

The Jeep sustained undercarriage damage, while the trailer and boat were also damaged for a total of $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department assisted with one medical run and responded to several other dispatches recently.

* At 4:52 p.m. Thursday, GFD investigated a gas smell at 700 S. County Road 125W. The cause of the odor was due to a diesel fuel spill.

* At 9:49 a.m. Thursday, GFD assisted the Greencastle Police Department with a welfare check at 126 E. Walnut St. The department utilized the ladder truck in the assist.

* At 10:25 a.m. Friday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 406 S. Indiana St. The use of a steam cleaner caused the alarm.

* At 4:18 p.m. Friday, GFD responded to a cooking fire at 1052 Avenue B. The grease fire was extinguished by the time the department arrived. They evactuated smoke from the residence.

* At 5:23 p.m. Friday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 414 S. Indiana St. The alarm was set off due to a water leak.
