BRAZIL -- The South Putnam girls' tennis team saw its last match at the IHSAA Northview Sectional against the host school Thursday, but SPHS coach John Briones said it was one of the best games the Eagles have played all year.

"We played a lot better today," Eagle coach John Briones said. "Especially my seniors, I wanted them to go out with their best effort. That's what they gave me today so I was really proud of them."

While the Eagles' singles team couldn't score, the effort from the South Putnam players was evident.

Briones commended Olivia Arnold's performance in the No. 1 singles slot as well as his other seniors who have helped shape this season.

"I'm definitely going to miss them," Briones said. "I had eight seniors this year and I'm going to miss them all. They show great support for the younger girls. They played hard and they had a lot of fun doing it."

Briones wanted to get his Eagles focused on playing their best for the next set and is happy with the work that his team contributed.

"I thought the girls did a really good job," Briones said. "My big thing this year was to win every point. If you lose a point, win the next one. I felt like the girls did an excellent job of that. They went out and they played to win."
