GHS to play for sectional title

BRAZIL -- The Greencastle girls' tennis team will be in championship action after two great days of tennis. Greencastle played against Owen Valley at DePauw Wednesday and walked away with a 4-1 victory.

Good play was evident all around, as the only loss Wednesday came at the No. 1 singles spot where Bailey Zapp gave Owen Valley's Kirsten Norman everything she had, going extra sets before falling 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 3-6.

She said she was exhausted from head-to-toe after the match but enjoyed the challenge.

"I did (have fun)" Zapp said. "I love the sport and I enjoy being competitive."

Greencastle's Rachel Chadd won her set 6-1, 6-4 and Madison Trout took the victory 6-2 and 6-0.

"I think we played very well as a team today," Chadd said. "We still have stuff to improve on and work on. Personally I still have things to improve on as well and I'm looking forward to that."

The doubles also took decisive wins with Lydia Trout and Lilly Spencer winning 6-4 and 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles slot and Kaylea Torr saw victory with Alex Weliever in the No. 2 doubles slot. They took the win 6-2 and 6-0.

GHS coach Kevin Rowe said his team is focused on the task at hand which is taking down Northview at home for the sectional crown.

"I'm looking forward to playing in the championship against Northview," Rowe said. "We're looking for a little redemption and we are excited. We've had a great season and we've made improvement this year compared to last year. We're excited ot be a little more competitive."

The Tiger Cub team faced South Vermillion at Northview in the semifinals and easily took the win 6-0 and now the Greencastle team is looking for a championship.
