LIZTON -- It was a windy outing when the Tiger Cub softball team played its IHSAA Tri-West Sectional game against Danville on Tuesday and the wind caused a few fielding errors and may have cost Greencastle the game.

GHS went down big early but kept fighting in its 6-3 loss.

"That one is a hard one to put a finger on," GHS coach Dave Keller said. " She threw a good riseball and she threw hard but we've faced harder."

Early in the game GHS struggled at the plate. GHS couldn't get any scores until the last inning. Danville meanwhile had two runs score in the second inning and another in the third.

Tough winds made it difficult for the Tiger Cubs to track down popflys and errors led to runs for Danville.

"Our defense let us down a little bit.," Keller said. "We dropped tow or there flyballs and we gave them nfive unearned runs and we got beat 6-3. That's a hard one to swallow.

Things really looked bleak for the Tiger Cubs when the Warriors scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth with no outs to get a 6-0 lead. But then Grace Paul caught a line drive down the third-base line and then turned to get the runner who was caught off the bag. Skyler Hensley then got the last batter looking.

That gave GHS time to rally for a win in the final innings. However it wasn't until there were two outs in the final inning that the GHS rally began.

First Rachel Dozier walked to first. Then Paige Bragg earned a single as did Julia Mundy.

Then a wild pitched scored Layna Robinson who was running for Dozier to give GHS its first score of the game. Hensley then earned a double to score both Bragg and Mundy. However the game would end with Hensley on second base as Danville was able to close out the Tiger Cubs.

"They had every reason to quit," Keller said. "They had two outs in the seventh inning, with no one on base. Then at the end we had the tying run sitting on deck. So that says a lot about the team. They keep fighting like they have all year. We don't lose anybody."

Keller went on to express his enthusiasm about getting the majority of his players back this year.

"It was a good year for us. It was a learning year and we figured out some things we need to do differently," Keller said. "A lot of teams don't have that luxury. We do. So I'm proud of the season."

The Tiger Cub team finished the season 10-11 which is them most wins for the team in eight years. Keller said the team's chemistry is the most notable thing about his group of girls.

"They are a team," Keller said. "They are all about team. They don't give up on each other they don't give in. They are picking each other up and consoling them. That's where bonding and team building starts. That's what they've improved the most."
