County Jail

Nineteen people have been placed into the custody of the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, James William Webb, 51, Cloverdale, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance.

* At 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, Erick Douglas Knight, 34, Cloverdale, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of controlled substance.

* At 12:25 a.m. Thursday, May 21, Terry Richard Dye Jr., 20, Indianapolis, was arrested on warrants out of Marion County.

* At 12:25 a.m. Thursday, Rita Kay Williamson, 36, Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and driving while suspended.

* At 8:34 a.m. Thursday, Kristina Lee Massena, 39, Plainfield, was arrested for a probation violation.

* At 7:35 p.m. Thursday, Erik Milo Pelley, 45, Indianapolis, was arrested for failure to appear, operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated with a prior.

* At 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Robert Allen Galloway, 27, Mooresville, was arrested for failure to appear and disorderly conduct.

* At 9:10 p.m. Thursday, Hanna Lee Jones, 29, Greencastle, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a syringe.

* At 10:10 p.m. Thursday, Dereck Allen Burchett, 37, Greencastle, was arrested on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

* At 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 22, Jesse Madison Barker, 34, Roachdale, was arrested for contempt of court.

* At 12:50 p.m. Friday, David Dale Brand, 42, Indianapolis, was arrested on a warrant for theft.

* At 12:54 p.m. Friday, Stacey Larae Northington, 25, Greencastle, was arrested on a warrant for resisting law enforcement.

* At 1 p.m. Friday, Christopher Matthew McCurdy, 30, Indianapolis, was arrested on a warrant for driving while suspended.

* At 3:20 a.m. Saturday, May 23, Joshua Dalton Lady, 21, Greencastle, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.

* At 9:14 p.m. Saturday, Kalie Renae Arnold, 18, Martinsville, was arrested on charges of theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

* At 10:55 p.m. Saturday, Robert Wesley Hollenbeck, 54, Belleville, was arrested on two counts of operating while intoxicated and public intoxication.

* At 4 a.m. Monday, May 25, Rhaine Cluggish, 21, Greencastle, was arrested on a local warrant for battery on a person younger than 14.

* At 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, Ryan Lamont Curlin, 22, Indianapolis, was arrested on a warrant out of Marion County.

* At 12:43 p.m. Tuesday, Paula Kay Jones, 30, Greencastle, was arrested for two counts of possession of a device that interferes with a drug screen.

City Police

Five recent accidents were investigated by city officers.

-- At 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, two teenage drivers were involved in a two-vehicle mishap on the Greencastle High School parking lot.

Chief Tom Sutherlin reported that Hannah Cunningham, 16, Greencastle, was backing a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee from a parking space when she failed to see a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Victoria Sampson, 17, Greencastle, approaching.

Sampson had backed out of a nearby parking spot and was driving eastbound through the lot when the accident occurred.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 3:02 p.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle accident on State Road 240, near Fillmore Road, resulted in minor injury to one of the drivers involved.

Trevor Knoebel, 19, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240, driving a 2001 Mercury Sable, when a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Shane Jukes, 19, Spencer, pulled out of the Crown Equipment Co. parking lot into his path.

Jukes told Officer Ed Wilson he did not see the Knoebel car approaching in the rain until it was too late to avoid a collision.

Operation Life ambulance was called to the scene and transported Jukes to Putnam County Hospital with back pain.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 11:36 a.m. Monday, a minor mishap was reported on the Walmart supercenter parking lot.

Assistant Chief Brian Hopkins listed damage at less than $1,000 as Mary Dean, 72, Greencastle, reportedly backed her 2005 Mercury into a parked 2015 Dodge Ram owned by Doris Gregory, Greencastle.

Dean said she suddenly blacked out as she backed up, Hopkins noted.

-- At 11:07 p.m. Sunday, a minor mishap was reported on Avenue D on the city's East Side.

Justin Barger, 41, Greencastle, was reportedly talking to a passenger as he backed out of a driveway on the north side of the street, and his 1998 Chevrolet pickup struck a 2001 Chevrolet, owned by Katie Davis, Fillmore, parked along the south side of the street.

Officer Matt Huffman noted there are two no-parking signs along the south side of the street in that area.

Barger was cited for operating a vehicle without proof of financial responsibility.

-- At 2:07 p.m. May 22, East Franklin Street, near Arlington Street, was the scene of a two-vehicle accident investigated by Capt. Chris Jones.

Georgia Stanley-Craig, 87, Greencastle, was eastbound, driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, when she reportedly looked down at her air-conditioning controls and the car veered into the westbound lane, striking a 2012 Ford F-150 driven by James Batts, 57, Lizton.

Batts, who was westbound, said he had no chance to avoid the car when it moved into his lane.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department responded to five accidents recently.

* At 5:53 p.m. Thursday, May 21, Michael D. McHugh, 48, Plainfield, was attempting to back out of a parking spot in a 2000 Buick LeSabre at South Putnam High School. When leaving the spot, he reportedly turned into the lane of traffic in front of Troy W. Burgess, 49, Plainfield, driving a 2011 Ford Escape.

Burgess advised Deputy Tyler Turner he was unable to stop and struck McHugh's vehicle.

Burgess' vehicle had minimal damage and McHugh's vehicle sustained damage to the driver's side fender and wheel. Damage was estimated between $5,001 and $10,000.

* At 9:01 p.m. Friday, May 22, Catherine B. Crosby, 48, Cloverdale, was northbound in a 2007 Honda Accord on U.S. 231 when the left front of her vehicle made impact with a deer.

Deputy Kyle Gibbons estimated damage between $1,001 and $2,500.

* At 6:23 p.m. Saturday, John F. Yates, 83, Poland, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2013 Hyundai Entourage exiting the town of Cloverdale.

Jamie Herrera, 29, Norcross, advised Deputy Turner she was stopped at the intersection of State Road 42 and U.S. 231 in a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. She believed the intersection was a four-way stop and pulled into the intersection in front of Yates. The two collided.

Herrera was cited for operating a vehicle without financial responsibility and her vehicle was towed from the scene.

Damage was estimated between $5,001 and $10,000.

* At 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Jill Y. Smith, 49, Shelburn, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2004 Pontiac Vibe when a deer ran into the path of the vehicle.

Smith advised Deputy Mike Downing she struck the deer, which caused damage to the passenger's side fender, hood and front grille.

Damage estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, Scott Weaver, 47, Rockville, was westbound on State Road 236 in Russellville, in a 2014 Chevrolet 3500 when a deer entered the roadway.

Weaver advised Deputy Steve Smith the deer entered the road from the south side and struck the vehicle on the driver's side.

Damage estimated at less than $1,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department performed two medical assists and responded to three other dispatches recently.

* At 10 p.m. Tuesday, GFD received a call at the station regarding a fire in the Greencastle High School parking lot, 910 E. Washington St.

Upon arrival, the department found students in the parking lot had created a fire. The principal was contacted and he advised this fire was unauthorized, wanted the fire extinguished and the students disbanded from the property. The Greencastle Police Department was contacted for assistance. The students extinguished the fire and the police had them leave the property.

* At 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, GFD responded to a report of a fuel spill at 215 Wood St. The owner of the Jeep advised someone had put a hole in his gas tank. The hole was patched in the vehicle and the fuel was cleaned from the ground.

* At 8:02 p.m. Wednesday, GFD investigated a smoke smell at 1428 Willow Bend. The occupants advised they could smell an electrical odor in the laundry room. The smell was originating from the dryer, which went away when the dryer was turned off.
