DANVILLE--Greencastle jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first two innings of the Danville baseball sectional against the Indian Creek Braves Wednesday night before the final duration got pushed to Thursday night because of weather. The nine-run lead proved to be big before winning 11-4.

The Tiger Cubs opened up the game hitting the ball hard with seven hits including four doubles that scored those nine runs.

"We hit the tar out of the ball last night," Tiger Cub coach Troy Remsburg said. "We scored two runs in the first inning. I think Kaleb Fleming hit a double and kind of got things rolling. That second inning the bats just came alive. That's something I've been waiting for all year. It was a full team effort last night. Then, of course, Mother Nature wasn't nice to us. It's kind of hard to come back that next day and have that same intensity."

The Braves got their first hit in the fourth inning on a Tyler Parks double. He scored on two passed balls.

Tiger Cub Brandon Workman started the second night right where the Tiger Cubs left off by hitting the ball hard into center field for a single. After that his team only mustered four more hits.

"I expected them to hit like they did last night," Remsburg said. "Maybe I expect too much sometimes, but they know that's how I am. I expect them to play like that. They showed that for two innings like that and then didn't come and show it tonight. We scored nine runs in two innings last night and scored two runs in five innings tonight."

Indian Creek put pressure on Tiger Cub pitcher Tanner Nicholson in the fifth inning, scoring their final three runs of the game. Nicholson gave up four hits in the inning and after recording the third out there was a pitching change. Nicholson finished his outing giving up five hits and all four runs.

"Tanner was crisp but not like last night," Remsburg said. "They started hitting him in one inning, but because the defense was so good they only scored four runs total."

Greencastle padded one more run to its lead in the sixth inning after loading the bases. Workman walked and stole both second and third bases before being knocked in on a Fleming single.

Remsburg praised his defense and said it won the game for the Tiger Cubs on night two. This included a great throw from center fielder Ryley Cook to third base that got Max Walls out at third.

"Luckily, we had some good plays in the field," Remsburg said. "Cook made a great play in center to get a runner out at third. Defense kept up in the game tonight. Yes, they had some good hitters, but defense tonight won the game for us as where last night it was our bats."

Workman relieved Nicholson in both the final two innings and walked away without giving up a hit. He struck out Jarrett Rozzi looking to send his team into the sectional semifinal against Danville at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

"We're going to have to play seven innings of sharp, mistake-free baseball," Remsburg said. "Danville is a good team and everybody knows that. I told them we can be that good of a team too. You just have to believe in yourself and minimize the mistakes."
