For many high school seniors, the end of the school year is a time for looking back at the accomplishments over the years. Each year in Putnam County the Chamber of Commerce and Teachers' Credit Union join forces to recognize accomplishments of both a male and female and present the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Putnam County Senior Athlete Award.

Presented to a boy and girl senior student athlete in the Putnam county area, the award signifies excellence in both athletics and academic pursuits. The award also comes with a $250 scholarship.

This year the county had two record-breaking athletes to recognize. Representing South Putnam is senior Zane Crosby and representing North Putnam is senior Kayla Clodfelter.

Clodfelter plays volleyball, basketball, ran cross-country and she set the North Putnam pole-vaulting record at nine feet.

She is also on the student council, National Honors Society, thespian society, Spanish club, and different academic teams.

"I'm blown away," Clodfelter said. "It's very honoring. It's nice to be recognized for the hard work I put in these past 12 years."

Clodfelter plans to attend USI and earn a degree in the medical field for reconstructive plastic surgery.

Representing South Putnam is Zane Crosby who holds the Eagle swimming record in the 50-yard freestyle.

Crosby also plays tennis and baseball while serving as student body president.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Future Farmers of America.

"I knew that Mr. Bridges called me into his office maybe two weeks ago and said I was in the front running for South Putnam's outstanding athlete," Crosby said. "So he nominated me for the Putnam County Athlete. I didn't think I was going to get it. Looking at these walls, I've seen the South Putnam athletes that have won it before me and I didn't think I would."

In the past Crosby has expressed interest in the medical field, saying he would enjoy getting into IU medical school.
