The faithful members of the Masonic Temple bodies are determined to carry on in the face of adversity and host the annual fish fry Thursday and Friday, June 4-5.

Although Vine Street may be closed to traffic, the Greencastle Masonic Temple, 118 E. Washington St., will be open for fish fry business from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., continuing an annual event that has gone on longer than anyone can remember.

This year Vine Street is closed for construction, making parking a bit of a challenge but board members voted unanimously to forge ahead with the fundraising event without hesitation, spokesman Mike Murphy said. "We thought about not holding the event but after conversations with the Mayor's Office and city attorney, they assured us that the construction would still allow access to the building from the front and side entrances, including the handicap ramp," Murphy said. "We figured if we put out the familiar sign and tent, then started cooking, the people would come regardless."

On the menu again are the golden cod fillets with favorites such as baked beans, potato salad, creamy cole slaw and plentiful pies and cakes.

Meanwhile, for those who enjoy a hearty breakfast, on June 13, the Saturday following the fish fry, Morton Lodge 469 Craft Club will resume its all-you-can-eat biscuits and gravy, pancakes or french toast at $5 per person, serving 7-11 a.m. every Saturday through October.
