First Christian welcomes past organist Jason Asbury

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 110 S. Indiana St. in Greencastle, is happy to welcome past organist Jason Asbury for a visit on Sunday June 7 at 10 a.m.

Asbury is active as a concert organist, conductor and choral accompanist in the New York City metropolitan area. He is currently the assistant head of school at Saint Ann's School, where he has taught music for 17 years and recently completed his tenure of 17 years as director of music at Prospect Presbyterian Church in Maplewood, N.J.

Asbury is currently serving as board president of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians based in Louisville and is founder/artistic director of the Essex County, N.J. choral festival called Sing Out!, held biennially at the Newark Museum.

He has performed as a solo recitalist in many venues including St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, Augustinerkirche in Vienna and Princeton University Chapel.

He has served as assistant conductor of the Summit Chorale at Drew University in Madison, N.J., accompanist for the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, conducted the Prospect Presbyterian Chancel Choir's concert tours in Scotland and Montreal and led the Saint Ann's High School Chorus on tours to Germany and the Czech Republic and Spain.

Asbury holds degrees from DePauw University, Bachelor of Music; Westminster Choir College, Master of Music; and Graduate Theological Foundation, Doctor of Sacred Music, and received additional training at the North German Organ Academy.
