Doris 'Elaine' Houk

Doris "Elaine" Houk, 95, of Brazil, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 after a brief stay at Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville.

She was born on March 23, 1920 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Walter and Margaret Kershner.

Elaine attended Dayton High School, and married Charles Houk on Dec. 2, 1939.

She and Charles ran Houk's Village at Cataract Lake.

Elaine enjoyed working in the yard, writing journals and stories. She also enjoyed following IU basketball.

Mrs. Houk was preceded in death by her husband, brother William Kershner, brother-in-law Albert McGill and two sister-in-laws, Wilma Kershner and Virginia McGill.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Odena) Houk, Reelsville, and Dennis (Nita) Houk, Reelsville; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Rev. Gary Scroggins officiating and burial to follow at Cottage Hill Cemetery.

The family will accept friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
