Bainbridge Alumni Assn. banquet set June 27

BAINBRIDGE -- The 101st annual Bainbridge High School (BHS) Alumni Association banquet is set for Saturday, June 27 in the Bainbridge Community Building.

The welcome hour will begin at 5 p.m. with the buffet dinner following at 6:30.

The program will be highlighted by recognition of the first Bainbridge High School Alumni scholarship winner and entertainment provided by Jeff Blue of Columbus, who will sing and play his guitar.

Classes to be honored this year at the banquet include: 1940 (75 years since graduation), 1945 (70 years), 1955 (60 years) and 1965 (50 years). Class speakers scheduled to make responses include Thursa Etcheson Evens of rural Bainbridge for the 1945 class and Patsy Hanks McCammack of Bainbridge for the 1955 class. Sheila Porter Chadd of Crawfordsville will make the introductions of the 1965 class and Linda Coffman of Indianapolis will have the retrospect comments for the 50-year class.

An update on the new Bainbridge High School Alumni scholarship endowment with the Putnam County Community Foundation will be shared by Janet Houser O'Hair (Class of 1969) of rural Greencastle. Kayla Clodfelter, who recently was awarded the first BHS Alumni Scholarship, will be honored. She was a member of the North Putnam graduating class this year.

Jeff Blue is a 1960 graduate of Bainbridge High School and Butler University in 1964. His family includes his wife Marlene, son Matthew, daughter Tahcia, son-in-law Jim, brother Mike and three granddaughters.

Jeff and his brother Mike were part of the undefeated Bainbridge basketball team that went to the semi-state tournament in 1959. At the end of his Butler career, Jeff held five all-time Butler University basketball scoring and rebounding records. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1965.

Jeff, Marlene and Matt own and operate two businesses, Blue Recreation Co and mini-warehouses.

Jeff was a guest singer and entertainer at the Little Nashville Opry for 34 years.

All alumni are welcome to bring guests, and anyone who attended BHS or has an interest in the school is welcome to attend. Information is also available on the Bainbridge Alumni website at www.bainbridgealumni.webs.com which is maintained by Doyne Priest of Greencastle.

Other officers of the Bainbridge High School Alumni Association this year include Janet Austin Parker of Indianapolis, president; Louise Buttery Miller of rural Greencastle, vice president, and Alan Ader of Rockville, corresponding secretary.
