BAINBRIDGE -- Students at Bainbridge Elementary School learned firsthand this past school year how recycling can be helpful to the environment.

During the last three months of school, students collected plastic caps and lids to be reused and recycled into a plastic bench for the school.

Third-grade students boxed and weighed more than 50 boxes of caps and lids during the year to achieve the goal of 400 pounds.

At the end of the year, Bainbridge Elementary School had collected more than 450 pounds of caps and lids.

The students' hard work will allow a plastic bench to be added to the Bainbridge playground for the start of school next year.

The recycling program was made possible by a grant received from West Central Solid Waste District.
