PCPL to host Time Travelin' Genealogy Guild

Sunday, June 28, 2015

Wednesday, July 1, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., PCPL is going to take a Time Travelin' Tour into the past reading old newspapers online. The social columns of local communities show how much our daily lives have changed. Obituaries can break down LBWs (Lineage Brick Walls). They can show the medical history of your family. Be prepared for surprises, though, because old news articles may unlock family secrets that have been hidden for generations.

The Putnam County papers are just a few of the increasing number of vintage newspapers that have been digitized. Let the guide take you through this tricky platform and introduce you to a few of the other papers that are searchable online.

Bring your laptop or Wi-Fi enabled device and join us on the first Wednesday of the month. Email your tour guide, Diana Denny Brumfield, Putnam County Public Library's genealogist with any questions at dbrumfield@pcpl21.org.
