Ruptured gas line shuts down portion of Bloomington Street for short time

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

A portion of Bloomington Street in Greencastle was closed for a few minutes in front of Carpenter Realtors Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the street in front of 320 Bloomington St. was being reopened after a gas line main was ruptured during construction.

GPD officer Darrel Bunten said four homes in the vicinity of the area were evacuated until the gas line could be shut off.

The line was ruptured while replacing the collapsed lines going into Carpenter Realtors.

As of 5:15 p.m. the road was reopened and the area cleared with John and John Associates working on the line.
