County Jail

Eight people were placed into the custody of Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 12:05 p.m. Thursday, Michael Davis, 35, Crawfordsville, was arrested on a warrant.

* At 11:54 a.m. Friday, Adam Spencer Hensley, 30, Poland, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

* At 4:08 a.m. Sunday, Tori Hostetler, 21, Monrovia, was arrested on a warrant.

* At 4:08 a.m. Sunday, Zakkary Matthew Osburn, 23, Lafayette, was arrested on a warrant.

* At 11:45 a.m. Sunday, George Arthur Dunlap, no age listed, Indianapolis, was arrested as a habitual traffic violator.

* At 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Jason A. Ryan, 38, Effingham, Ill., was arrested on charges of battery and strangulation.

* At 11 p.m. Sunday, Dennis Lee Kent, 38, Cloverdale, was arrested for charges of driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance.

* At 6:59 a.m. Tuesday, Nicholas Lane Cooper, 44, Monrovia, was arrested on a warrant for bond revocation.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Susan D. Inman, 53, Greencastle, was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for theft.

Arrested by Officer Nick Eastham at a Woodhaven residence, Inman was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Three recent property-damage accidents were investigated by Greencastle officers.

-- At 8:30 p.m. Friday, a three-vehicle accident was reported on Bloomington Street near Veterans Memorial Highway.

Francis Gibson, 48, Greencastle, was stopped southbound on Bloomington in a 2000 Dodge Durango with a 2011 Ford, driven by Cody Flores, 20, Dale, Ind., stopped behind the Gibson vehicle.

Also southbound was a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by John Beck, 22, Bainbridge, which reportedly struck the rear of the Flores vehicle, pushing it into the back of the Gibson Durango.

Officer Brad Hiatt estimated total damage at $1,000-$2,500.

-- At 2:43 p.m. Friday, a two-vehicle mishap on Indianapolis Road near Warren Drive was investigated by Assistant Chief Brian Hopkins.

Tonny Cox Jr., 75, Fillmore, was reportedly turning northbound off Indianapolis Road in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee on what he said was a yellow light.

Meanwhile, Gena Rinberger, 31, Greencastle, was westbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 1993 Mazda Protege, proceeding through the intersection on a yellow light when she said the Cox vehicle turned into front of her.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

Rinberger was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

-- At 3:43 p.m. Thursday, a two-vehicle accident resulted in an estimated $5,000-$10,000 damage, Officer Darrell Bunten reported.

Katherine Downing, 26, Greencastle was southbound on Bloomington Street, driving a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country van when Travis Jackson, 23, Greencastle, reportedly tried to cross Bloomington at Seminary Street in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, and a collision occurred.

Jackson said he was westbound, stopped at the stopsign at Bloomington and did not see the southbound Downing van until it was too late to avoid the collision.

Sheriff's Department

* At 11:24 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, Johathon Heylmann, 22, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 300 West, just north of County Road 1050 South, in a 2009 Jeep Patriot.

Heylmann advised Deputy Virgil Lanning as he approached the curve in the road a deer entered the roadway. He swerved in an attempt to miss the deer, left the road, struck a fence and came to rest in a hayfield.

The vehicle was taken from the scene by the driver's parents.

Damage was listed between $1,001-$2,500.

* At 5:32 a.m. Friday, Jasmine Smalls, 18, Fort Worth, was eastbound on Interstate 70 in a 2003 Civic LX.

She advised Deputy Lanning she did not know what happened, but recalled leaving the road at the 33-mile marker and slid into the median. She struck the cable barrier with her right rear bumper.

Damage was listed at $1,001 to $2,500.

* At 8:47 p.m. Saturday, Joshua C. Stock, 27, Roachdale, was traveling north on County Road 400 East, just north of 375 North in a 2003 Mazda Familia. Kerry L. Ames, 58, Fillmore, was traveling south on CR 400 East in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado.

Stock advised Deputy Steve Smith as he began to enter the corner turning left he started to slow down. When he saw the other vehicle, driven by Ames, come from the north he panicked and hit his brakes, causing him to slide and collide with the other vehicle.

Ames advised he observed Stock come through the corner from the south, so he stopped his vehicle. Stock then came through the corner and ran into the front of the vehicle.

Stock's vehicle received debilitating damage and was towed from the scene by Plough's Towing. Ames' vehicle sustained significant damage, but was able to drive the vehicle home.

Damage was listed between $5,001 to $10,000.

* At 9:20 p.m. Saturday, Thomas J. Novak, 68, Coatesville, was attempting to parallel park on Heritage Lake Marine Road in Fillmore in a 2005 Buick LeSabre.

A report filed by Deputy Matthew Biggs states as Novak was backing up the vehicle, he struck an unoccupied 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Rustin Giles of Coatesville. He struck the truck with so much force it then hit an unoccupied 2013 Cadillac SUV owned by Jennifer Carrico, of Avon, six feet away.

Novak was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

Damage was listed at $10,001 to $25,000.

* At 12:52 a.m. Sunday, Benjamin B. Hein, 26, Rockville, was traveling north on County Road 550 East, north of County Road 200 North in Fillmore, in a 1995 Ford F250.

Hein advised Deputy Kyle Gibbons he was unfamiliar with the road and his vehicle left the roadway as he turned a corner. The vehicle slid through the grass on the north side and made contact with a Hendricks Power utility pole.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department assisted with one medical call and responded to several other dispatches recently.

* At 3:49 p.m. Thursday, GFD investigated a report of smoke on County Road 225 South, but no issue was found.

* At 3:51 p.m. Thursday, GFD helped with clean-up following a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Bloomington and Seminary streets.

* At 2:54 p.m. Friday, GFD assisted with clean-up following a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Warren Street and Indianapolis Road.

* At 9:35 a.m. Saturday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 2000 S. Jackson St. The department was called back to the address at 10:27 a.m. It was determined there was an issue with the sensor.

* At 5:06 p.m. Saturday, GFD investigated a report of an odor on County Road 275 South.

* At 3:14 a.m. Sunday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 418 S. Anderson St. The alarm was caused by cooking on the third floor.

* At 9:08 a.m. Sunday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 103 Woodhaven Dr. No issue was found.

* At 10:42 a.m. Monday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 509 S. Locust St. The alarm was caused by maintenance on the third floor.

*At 5:48 p.m. Monday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 330 Greenwood Ave. The alarm was caused by cooking.

* At 6:12 p.m. Monday, GFD assisted with a motor vehicle accident at 218 Bloomington St.

* At 5:32 a.m. Tuesday, GFD assisted with a smoke detector malfunction at 620 Anderson St.

* At 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 18 E. Washington St. It was determined a dryer motor had overheated.
