CSX railroad crossing to reopen Saturday, close again briefly Monday

CSX Railroad will reopen the crossing on U.S. 231 in Greencastle Saturday morning, an Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman said Friday.

The crossing, just north of Shadowlawn Avenue on the city's north side, will then be shut down again on Monday, July 13, likely between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., INDOT said.

The crossing had been scheduled for completion by Friday but the start of work was initially delayed by the downpours of rain earlier in the week.

The latest delay in the project to replace the section of rail at the north side crossing and redo the asphalt surrounding it has been due to a breakdown with the paving compaction machine necessary to complete the crossing restoration.
